One 'high good feedback' Ebay seller selling at USD1,899 per Canon Rumours. Has anyone been in a similar scenario back when the Mark III was released and getting a Mark II for a great price? Any suggestions and advice welcome! Thanks! I assume whenever the Mark IV comes out, the prices for the Mark III will continue to drop.

I'm in no rush for the Mark III but I do want to get the best rock bottom price. The Mark IV has been rumored to come out sometime this year. Yes, more expensive is exactly what I was thinking. 6D and 5DM3 also went thru price drop at the beginning of it's product life cycle. I was considering 5DM2 at that time, thus I collected this data. Based on 5DM2 data, waiting until after new product release doesn't really gain you that much. But there was also seasonal sales impact. Then after 5DM3 came out, you get another $200-300 drop in 6 months. Basically, the prices drop gradually and significantly during the life of the 5DM2. I know the my pricing trend has some gaps. I believe 5DM2 was discontinued in Oct 2012, but I don't think there is official discontinued date, so not sure. Whether you need something today or you can wait maybe 1 more year.īelow are prices for new authorized retailer prices. OP: I think your decision should also be based on what you have right now. Otherwise, the 5D Mark III is a world class camera that's going to be hard to beat. Those are two improvements I would bank on for the 5D Mark IV, and they're 2 needed improvements. Honestly, about the only reasons to wait and see what the 5D Mark IV will offer over the 5D Mark III is 1) if you life shadows a LOT (more than 1.5-2 stops and do so frequently) or 2) if you want better video capabilities. I don't really care about bells and whistles as he does but now I feel this odd pressure to 'wait' and 'see'. Unless currency exchanges swing even further, that is. I can almost guarantee that the 5D Mark IV will be quite a bit more expensive, and won't see massive price drops that bring it down to what the 5D Mark III is selling for, for quite some time (a couple of years?). The whole reason to purchase now is because of the discounted prices since this has been out a while. He told me it's already 4year 'old tech' and that I should wait for the IV!Īre you a tech junkie, a photographer, or both? Honest question. I told a good friend I was interested in getting the 5DMIII.
